UMHS promotes healthy lifestyle choices through all its programs as a way to reduce obesity and chronic disease. Gardening is just one healthy lifestyle tools that we use in our Head Start classrooms, WIC offices and as a public service in the community. We support our sites in the gardening process and helped develop and maintain the “Lovin Spadefuls” Community Garden which is located behind the Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston. The gardens are utilized for their fresh produce in food service and as a place for “hands on” nutrition education for families.
